Kevin Gilnack, Principal

KG Consulting Principal Kevin Gilnack brings more than 20 years of nonprofit experience and has worked in Massachusetts politics, policy, and advocacy since 2017. He’s proud to help social justice, civil rights, and human service nonprofit organizations tell their stories, uplift the voices of their constituents, build capacity, and change laws to create a more equitable and prosperous future for all.

From the Commonwealth’s largest human services convention to rallies that fill Nurse’s Hall and Boston City Hall Plaza, to small grassroots fundraisers, phonebanks, and training series, Kevin has a wealth of event planning, fundraising, organizing, and coalition management experience to help you build a successful program.

KG Consulting also works with organizations to develop their revenue strategy, bringing extensive experience in grant research, writing, and reporting; state budget advocacy, contracts, RFPs, and earmarks; and individual donor and other program and earned revenue strategies.

Kevin moved to Boston in 2007 and spent seven years learning the ins and outs of the Massachusetts State House and media landscape at the Massachusetts Council of Human Service Providers (Providers’ Council), where he helped found The Caring Force to empower human service workers, clients, and supporters to advocate for better wages and funding for programs.

During his time at the Council, Kevin also managed and grew the exhibit and sponsorship program for Commonwealth’s largest statewide human services convention, and coordinated worker training series and graduate certificate program partnerships with Suffolk and Clark Universities.

Kevin deepened his knowledge of legislative and executive branch lobbying, campaigns, and organizing as Political Director at NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts (now Reproductive Equity Now). During his first week at NARAL, he worked with dozens of partners to fill City Hall Plaza for a rally for reproductive justice and helped pass Massachusetts’ new buffer zone law following the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby and McCullen decisions. Kevin also oversaw their endorsement process, organizing hundreds of volunteer hours to support pro-choice candidates. After the election, he developed their legislative agenda, secured cosponsors, and lobbied the Department of Public Health to improve access to reproductive healthcare.

He went on to serve as executive director of the Commonwealth Dispensary Association where he was the chief spokesperson and lobbyist for nonprofit medical cannabis dispensaries and worked with the industry and the Department of Public Health to improve regulations and enable the first dispensaries to begin serving patients, and represented the industry through the Ballot 4 Question campaign.

After leaving his role as Public Affairs Director for Parenting Journey, a Somerville nonprofit serving recent immigrants and DCF-involved parents, and relocating to Lowell in 2020, Kevin began consulting full-time, expanding his work with Equitable Opportunities Now! to create equitable economic opportunities in the cannabis industry; other nonprofits focused on civil rights, social justice, and human services; and the occasional political campaign.

Kevin earned Bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics, & Government (CLEG) at American University, where he also worked at the Women & Politics Institute.

After earning his degrees, Kevin worked with the Connecticut Working Families Party and Hartford & Bridgeport ACORN to advance economic justice issues like healthcare, paid leave, and childcare and campaign for candidates committed to those issues before moving to Boston.

Kevin began developing his skills in organizing, fundraising, and communications in high school managing his best friends’ band, building media kits, booking shows, organizing ticket sale efforts, and building an email and social media marketing program back in 2001 when digital was still in its infancy.

Kevin grew up in Connecticut and learned his sense of fairness, commitment to uplifting marginalized voices, and passion for changing unjust policies from his family and the United Church of Christ congregation at Buckingham Church in which he grew up (and received his first nonprofit job). He graduated from Glastonbury High School.

Kevin and his partner Corinne enjoy escaping to the beautiful beaches of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Rhode Island; camping in state forests; ebiking; cooking; traveling; and exploring their new community in the Merrimack Valley.
